When a contemporary house is built amidst more traditional homes, a lack of compatibility with the character of its surroundings is often a source of sore complaint by the neighbors.  In this house, which was a near tear down remodel and second floor expansion, we chose to blend the materials and colors of the side wings with those of the nearby homes, and introduced more modern wood panel elements in the center.  The result both makes a friendly gesture to the neighbors and a bolder, more contemporary statement of its own.
