COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE
A New Building for the College of Architecture at UNC Charlotte
SCOPE
91,000 sf
LOCATION
UNCC, Charlotte, NC
GENERAL CONTRACTOR
Gwathmey Siegel & Associates with The FWA Group
Located at the end of a long campus axis, the main entrance to the building invites visitors and students into an open daylit rotunda that is the focus of the building organization. Running perpendicular to the entrance axis is a 200’ long, skylit court that serves for casual student interaction, year-end design pin-ups, parties, and other events. It separates the two main learning activities of the program: two levels of design studios to the west and technology laboratories to the east. The building also includes multiple classrooms, a lecture hall, special exhibit gallery, library, faculty offices, and administration offices.
