Wood ceiling panels and skylights over living area

DONNALLY ARCHITECTS

LOFT HOUSE | SEATTLE, WA

After 35 years living in her simple mid-century home, her children grown and with families of their own, this intrepid client called us to help make one of her long held dreams come true—tear all the walls out of the three bedroom house and create the open plan urban loft she had always wanted. The scheme we developed created an adjacent pavilion for the bathroom in the back yard and re-built just one wall in the house to separate the public spaces from her sleeping area.

The ceiling over the main living area was removed and north facing operable skylights were added, flooding the space with a full spectrum of daylight and providing excellent cross ventilation. Combined with light wood ceiling panels, simple IKEA cabinetry, and few, well-placed pieces of furniture, the whole renovation became the bright, airy, and clutter-free home the client had always imagined.
